Wild
by Cheryl Strayed
Genre: Memoir
Review: This memoir is the July pick for my book club and the first pick for Oprah's 2.0 online book club. At first I was skeptical of this book; I heard it was about grieving, and that she'd dabbled in heroin and had a lot of affairs. Would I like this book? Would it be a real downer? Well, it wasn't. This book exceed my expectations and I found it inspiring.
Wild is the harrowing and inspiring account of one woman's hike on the Pacific Coast Trail during her twenties. After her mother's death, she is overcome by grief and wreaks havoc on her life. Hiking the trail is the way of saving her life and finding out who she is and who she is meant to be int he future. The descriptions of the setting and her emotional journey are amazing.
